Soup's On!

Well, today was an extremely productive day. After attending a culinary presentation this morning, I had the joy of spending my afternoon driving around the city checking out new neighborhoods to call home in the coming months.

After such a busy afternoon, we settled on having soup for dinner. Yep.... good ol' soup at The Soup Box.
We ordered a Chicken with Wild Rice Soup:
And a Beef Stew:
Food historians tell us the history of soup is probably as old as the history of cooking. The act of combining various ingredients in a large pot to create a nutritious, filling, easily digested, simple to make/serve food was inevitable. This made it the perfect choice for both sedentary and travelling cultures, rich and poor, healthy people and invalids. Soup (and stews, pottages, porridges, gruels, etc.) evolved according to local ingredients and tastes. New England chowder, Spanish gazpacho, Russian borscht, Italian minestrone, French onion, Chinese won ton and Campbell's tomato...are all variations on the same theme.

The soups we had today were great - filling, flavorful and affordable. Both came with bread and butter, easily making it a meal that hit the spot!

  1. I heart SoupBox! They have the best clam chowder and cream of leek soup in a breadbowl! Lucky You!

  2. Soup sounds really good right now. It was so chilly and windy here today. Heck, I thought I was living in "the windy city". :)
