Product Review: Sushezi At Home Sushi Maker

March 23, 2009 · WCC Administr@tr · 12 Comments

Because my kitchen is currently in boxes for the next 9 days (the countdown has now begun!), I figured I would use this time to share some fun foodie finds from the recent trade show I attended. I’d love to hear your thoughts on these reviews so please feel free to comment on whether you could see yourself using the products, what you like/don’t like, etc!

Established in 2005, Logan, Utah-based Santé is a privately held manufacturer of high-end cooking equipment for the ultimate home kitchen. Santé is devoted to bringing its customers innovative and cutting edge cooking tools ranging from the Infusion Roaster™ and The Skookie™ to quality cast iron Dutch ovens, pots, pans and skillets. Santé is a division of Logan Outdoor Products, a manufacturer of quality cookware since 1991. — Sante Cookware website

However, a new product in their line includes Sushezi, a tool that makes rolling sushi maki rolls easier and neater. It’s definitely unique and may take some getting used to because this is far from any “authentic sushi making process” I’ve ever seen or heard of.

Sushezi – Perfect sushi made easy. Perfect sushi is no longer an expensive restaurant food. Professional, round sushi can now be created in your own kitchen with your own choice of filling. Additionally, many favorite desserts can be easily molded to display beautifully shaped fudge rolls, cake rolls, and biscuit cookies.

With easy-to-follow instructions, Sushezi creates perfectly formed sushi quickly and reliably with no guesswork and no trial and error. Using your own choice of imaginative fillings will make you a sushi expert and have your guests coming back for more.

The Sushezi can also be used for a variety of dessert items. Walnut rolls, fudge rolls, cake rolls, and biscuit cookies are only a few of the possibilities.
So what do you think? Would you use something like this to create maki sushi (and other items) at home? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

I would definitely use something like this! I crave sushi so much and it isn’t available here. What is available here is fresh seafood and there are a few great fish mongers in the town. I believe there is one Japanese restaurant 45 minutes away in Newcastle but I think something like this would help me satisfy my craving for sushi.

I will have to see if this is available in the UK or else pick one up when I go home next!

I’ve always done my sushi by hand and to be honest I hate it, it’s so hard. I might just have to buy this if you say it’s good. Thanks for the tip!

I can’t see myself buying this since the bamboo mats are so easy to use and I already own two but I can see how it would be good for someone intimidated by rolling. The extrusion shot looks hilarious! Maybe I have a strange sense of humor?

This is SO cool! I have never made homemade sushi because my husband will not go near it (maybe if I made a non-fish sushi), but this thing looks really neat. I might buy one just to play with it.

I probably would, but it would depend on the price and/or if I were able to try it out – anything to help me make a tighter roll!

It does look interesting, but it kind of takes the fun out of it. 🙂 I don’t mind the bamboo mat, and, honestly, once you get the hang of it I think it’s really not that difficult. Just takes some practice. And it gives you a sense of accomplishment when you roll one that really looks nice. 🙂

This is something I would definitely be interested in! I love sushi but have always been afraid to try making it by hand. This would be a great gadget for first timers or for those who just can’t get rolling down!

    Wow. That is too crazy!

I like rolling them the good ol’ fashioned way because it makes me feel like I’ve accomplished something. But I’d still like to try this gadget!

I’ve made sushi before, though I don’t eat it, so this product might not have much use in my home. However, my sister and best friend LOVE sushi, so this would be perfect for them – and make it really easy for my friend (my sister may be a traditionalist when it comes to sushi). I’ve seen recipes for fruit sushi… if I could do that with this gadget, I would love to give it a try!!

I LOVE sushi. My initial thought was COOL. However, once the rice comes out wouldn’t you have to firm it up against the nori anyways?

Also one of my favorite kinds of sushi is with the rice on the outside so this doesn’t look like I can be doing it. As someone else posted above the removal process does look a little funny.

Love the concept, but there isn’t much practical application in my kitchen since DH doesn’t eat sushi.

Hmmm . . . I’m not sure. I think I want to try making it with the bamboo mat first.
