This week, we've been experiencing some cool temperature here in Chicago reminiscent to fall weather. It makes me want to bake all day and fill the house up with the aroma of fresh baked treats! Well this week, I'm featuring a favorite company of mine when I have baking needs - King Arthur Flour.
Started in Boston in 1790 and now based in Norwich, Vermont, America’s oldest flour company has grown from a regional staple to a brand known nationwide not only for its high-quality flours but for our passion in sharing the joy of baking; from a small mail-order business with five employees in 1990 to the premier baking resource with nearly 200 employees today; from a family-owned operation for five generations to a 100 percent employee-owned business. King Arthur Flour - the Baker’s Catalogue offers more than 1,000 professional-grade baking tools and ingredients through its catalogue, online at kingarthurflour.com/shop, and at The Baker’s Store in Norwich, Vermont. - KAF site
Did you know King Arthur Flour is America’s oldest flour company, founded in 1790? To put it into context, George Washington had just been elected to his first term in office when it was founded!

Whole Grain Buttermilk Bran Muffins - "These golden buttermilk muffins are enriched with a healthy hit of fiber."
Oatmeal Cranberry Cookies - "Oatmeal-cranberry cookies feature the sweet, nutty taste of oats, and the tang of dried cranberries."
Soft Molasses Cookies - "Old-fashioned molasses cookies are delightfully chewy and nicely spicy."
Date Bars - "Rich, moist, sweet date filling spooned onto a tender oatmeal crust, topped with streusel–now THAT’S comfort food!"

ReplyDeleteI love baking cookies! :)
I love baking cake and making the whole house smell delicious!
ReplyDeletei love love love to bake cookies..tons and tons of cookies..
ReplyDeleteI love baking breads, though I don't do it often. The house smells so great when it's done!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite item to bake is banana bread. I love to add nuts, chocolate, etc... I make sure that every time I bake it, I have enough for my house and enough to give away.
ReplyDeleteOh, I LOVE KAF. Ha, apparently I love them so much I shorten the name to an acronym. :D
ReplyDeleteMy favorite thing to bake is plain old whole wheat bread. KAF recipe, in fact. It's nice having a yeast recipe so in the bag that I keep little containers of the mixed dry ingredients in the freezer so when I want to make bread, I just dump the liquid then that container into the bread machine.
Hey, I only use it for the mix and raise! :p
I'm by no means an expert baker yet..but the first thing that I learned to bake - banana bread/muffins, remain my favorite. They are easy, delicious and come out delicious every time!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite thing to bake is my in-law's "Crazy Cake" we prepare for Jake, my stepson who has severe food allergies.
ReplyDeleteHe is allergic to eggs, nuts, treenuts, shellfish, canteloupe, watermelon.
It is quite a task to constantly check everything to make sure these types of foods are not used in anything Jake eats.
The crazy cake was a popular cake baked during the depression and does not call for eggs.
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
3/4 cup vegetable oil
2 tablespoons distilled white vinegar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups cold water
I really enjoy the taste of it as it has its own distinctive moist chocolate taste if prepared the right way!
I used to do a lot of quickbreads- so many different sweet and savory options. Recently though, I've overcome my fear of yeast and have been baking bread, pizza and rolls like crazy!
ReplyDeleteI love hosting brunch for friends, and one of my favorite things to bake is a blackberry cream cheese coffeecake I discovered at a B&B in wine country a couple of years ago. It's fun switching up the flavors with whatever jam or perserves I have on hand- strawberry, peach, blueberry. Mmmm, maybe I'll make one this weekend!
