Over the holiday weekend, hot dogs were a popular menu item, as was chips and dip. They’re perfect for gatherings, easy to make for guests and well, what would summer be without a hot dog or chips and dip?! As much as I enjoy a hot dog, I like topping them with various ingredients to keep them exciting. Some ways I enjoy them is ‘dragged through the garden,’ which is a term used to describe the iconic Chicago hot dog. It’s topped with chopped raw onions, a slather of yellow mustard, shredded lettuce, tomato slices, a sprinkling of celery salt, neon green sweet pickle relish, pickled sport peppers, and a dill pickle spear. Another easier way I like my hot dog is with a slather of mustard and a sprinkling of french fried onions. For the onions, nothing beats Onion Crunch and it’s this week’s Sunday Fun Day Giveaway!

Onion Crunch — crispy and fried made from fresh onions which have specially been developed from onion varieties. They are peeled, washed, cut and battered in order to create a perfect crispy onion. Then they are fried in high-quality vegetable oil to give them an absolute delicious taste.

They are sprinkled or used in small quantities to bring crispiness and a roasted onion flavor to salads, sandwiches, dips, soups, spreads, baked potatoes, pizza, hotdogs and burgers.

I first learned about Onion Crunch at the National Restaurant Association trade show I attended a couple months ago and that’s when I started putting Onion Crunch on top of hot dogs. What took me so long to find this!? It’s absolutely delicious and I love the flavor and crunchy texture it adds to the usual all beef hot dog. I mentioned chips and dip earlier and I also used Onion Crunch to make a variation of this Onion Dip.
Owner and founder of Onion Crunch, Nick Loeb, is generously sponsoring this week’s giveaway and a lucky reader will be receiving a package of Onion Crunch! You’ll be able to try it over hot dogs, on top burgers (especially with blue cheese and mushrooms – yum!), over salads, in dips, etc. They’re so many ways to use this and all of them are delicious!

Some guidelines:
– Giveaway is only for those who live in the United States – my apologies to my non-United States readers!
– You must check back in a week when winners are announced and email me to claim your prize if you win.
To enter the giveaway, leave a comment answering:
How do you top your hot dogs?
Deadline: Saturday, July 9, 2011 at 12 midnight CST.
One winner will be randomly chosen by Random.Org’s Interger Generator based on the number of your comment and will be announced on Sunday, July 10, 2011, within next week’s Sunday Fun Day Giveaway. Good luck!
Full Disclosure: The giveaways are sponsored by the same company that provided me with the food related product to review. Products I review and offer as a giveaway are ones I personally recommend and would use/enjoy myself and opinions reflected are mine alone.

I LOVE veggie hot dogs and I like to top them with cheese sauce and mayo (and on occasion vegetarian bacon bits), but I think the Onion Crunch would make a great addition!

Ordinarily, I would choose the traditional Chicago Style dog you describe, but, since you've already claimed that one, I'll go with my (very close) second choice. Smothered in chili and cheese, with a sprinkle of chopped onions and a wiggle of yellow mustard.

I like Venezuelan hot dogs. I top my hot dogs with shredded cabbage, minced onions, crushed up potato chips, ketchup and mustard.

I too am a big fan of Chicago dogs. However, at home, it's ketchup, mustard, and relish for me 🙂

I usually just eat them grilled and plain – sometimes a little bbq sauce.

I love my hot dogs topped with chili, cheese, cole slaw (I'm from the South!), & chopped onions.

It depends on what is available. Mostly chili, mustard and cheese. Raw onions rarely. Slaw rarely. Pickle relish if it is available.

    Onion Crunch sounds good!

Mustard ONLY! Ketchup has no place on a hot dog. 🙂

It depends on my mood! Sometimes I love a good chili dog w/ plenty of onions & cheese, other times I like a cheesy hot dog with some saurkraut & then of course I always love a good classic dog with ketchup, mustard, mayo, relish & onion! 🙂
