Happy Sunday! I’m running behind today which is why I’m actually posting this on Monday versus Sunday. I’ve been out of town to spend time with family the entire weekend and much to my surprise, I had no internet connection! Thankfully I’m back in the city and back on the grid. Last week, my friends at Ulysses Press sponsored the giveaway with a generous offering of one of their tasty cookbooks, Ice Cream Happy Hour. A lucky reader will receive a copy of this delicious cookbook, filled with frozen treat recipes inspired by favorite cocktails and drinks. A special thanks to Ulysses Press for sponsoring. Here’s a big Congratulations to the winner of this past week’s giveaway! Please shoot me an email at itsjoelen@gmail.com to claim your prize…

Boozy Ice Cream
Winner: Comment #5!

It seems like a distant memory when I was so intimated working with yeast. It was the one ingredient that really made me avoid any recipe involving it! But after some coaxing from friends, I tackled that fear and finally got over it. Even today, I wonder why I let that cooking fear take over me. However, these days, yeast is a common staple in my kitchen pantry. I’ve loved baking with it since I realized it wasn’t as hard or complicated as I once thought. But when I recently found out I had a gluten intolerance/sensitivity, I immediately thought my bread baking days were over. I couldn’t have been more wrong!
One of my favorite bread baking cookbooks was the Artisan Breads in Five Minutes a Day. I loved how I could create a dough and allow it to sit in the fridge until I was ready to bake. Now the same authors have come out with a new book dedicated to pizzas and flatbreads… and it even includes gluten free recipes!

In Artisan Pizza and Flatbread in Five Minutes a Day (Thomas Dunne Books – ISBN 0-312-64994-0) Jeff and Zoë will show readers how to use their innovative techniques for lightning-fast breads to make pizzas, flatbreads, and sweet and savory tarts from stored, no-knead dough. The authors also include soups, salads and spreads that turn flatbread or pizza into a complete meal.

With ingredients that include grains and toppings from around the world, as well as healthy alternatives, Artisan Pizza and Flatbread in Five Minutes a Day will give readers the tools to make their all-time favorite meals in minutes.

Includes 100 recipes for:
• Classic Pizza Margherita with mozzarella, tomato, and basil
• Sicilian thick-crust pizza
• Chicago-style deep-dish pizza
• Mexican corn flatbread with tomatillo and chilies
• Gorgonzola and pear tart
• Breakfast pizza with prosciutto, parmigiano and egg
• Pocket pizzas for parties and school lunches
• Dessert tarts from sweet doughs

For all of those who would like a quick and easy method of making artisan pizza, this book is a must have.

Thanks to my friends at St. Martin’s Press, they will be sponsoring this week’s Sunday Fun Day Giveaway. A lucky reader will receive a brand new copy of the Artisan Pizza and Flatbread in Five Minutes a Day cookbook. Will you be that lucky reader that will be creating some delicious pizza and flatbread in a few minutes flat?! Read on for more details…

Some guidelines:
– Giveaway is only for those who live in the United States – my apologies to my non-United States readers!
– You must check back in a week when a winner is announced and email me to claim your prize if you win.
To enter the giveaway, leave a comment answering:
How do you like topping your pizza/flatbread?
Deadline: Saturday, October 29, 2011 at 12 midnight CST.

One winner will be randomly chosen by Random.Org’s Interger Generator based on the number of your comment and will be announced on Sunday, October 30, 2011, within next week’s Sunday Fun Day Giveaway. Good luck!

I just discovered white pizza this summer. Basically start with ricotta and stir in some other goodies, top with fresh tomatoes, basil and some cheese and you are done!
